Postponement Message

– January 22, 2021

After consulting with key stakeholders, Guam Sports Events, Inc. (GSEI) has announced that the United Airlines Guam Marathon, traditionally held on the second Sunday of April, will be postponed to Fall 2021.  A date has yet to be selected. GSEI will work closely with its event partners, United Airlines, Guam Visitors Bureau, and the Government of Guam to determine a feasible date for later this year.

GSEI continues to closely monitor the situation of COVID-19 within the Asia Pacific region and how this issue affects both international and local participants.

“Safety has always been the top priority for GSEI and its partners. To maintain this commitment and in keeping with current restrictions governing live events, GSEI board members decided to postpone the event until the Fall of 2021,” shared UGM event director, Ben Ferguson.

Ferguson continued, “We intend to look forward at the anticipated environment in the fall and if appropriate, develop a plan that meets all safety protocols and as best possible, preserves the integrity and feel of a large scale running event.”

A follow-up announcement with further details is expected sometime in the coming months. This will include information such as when 2021 registration may open, guidelines, and other requirements based on local regulations.

“We are optimistic that the United Airlines Guam Marathon will continue its tradition of celebrating the Håfa Adai spirit of the local community and providing its participants the unique only on Guam experience next fall. We know there will be many questions and we will look to address them in the coming months ahead,” Ferguson said.

The annual United Airlines Guam Marathon (UGM) is now in its ninth year and is organized by Guam Sports Events Inc., a nonprofit organization. UGM is considered to be Guam’s premier running event that includes 5K, 10K, half marathon (13.1 miles), and marathon (26.2 miles) race distances. For more information, visit unitedguammarathon.com. Event information and updates can also be accessed through the free UGM mobile App and on Facebook and Instagram (@unitedguammarathon).
