I am unable to attend the new date for the 2020 race. Can I get a refund?
Unfortunately, event registration is non-refundable. Please refer to our Terms and Conditions for further information.
However, event organizers will ensure event goodies are provided to registrants who are physically unavailable to participate due to military obligations or other considerations. Please provide us your mailing address and our team will arrange accordingly.
For those unable to attend, we will also provide a 25% discount to the upcoming 2021 United Airlines Guam Marathon event happening on April 11. Please notify the UGM team at firstname.lastname@example.org by April 1, 2020, to reserve a discount code. Discount codes will be provided the week of April 30, 2020.
If I’m unable to participate in the new event date, can I defer my 2020 entry to the 2021 event?
No, we cannot transfer entries to the following year. Unfortunately, due to the fact that race materials have already been purchased and rendered.
If I’m unable to participate in the new event date, can I transfer my 2020 entry to someone else?
No, we cannot transfer entries. Each entry is personally registered to a specifically named individual and this cannot be changed.
Do I have to re-register and pay the participation fee again if I would like to join the rescheduled event?
No, you don’t have to re-register and pay the fee again.
Will my existing information be transferred to the rescheduled event?
Yes, all registrations will be automatically maintained and forwarded to the rescheduled event date of September 13, 2020.
Can I still downgrade/upgrade my race distance for the September 13 event; how do I change my race distance if I’m already registered?

I’d like to downgrade/upgrade my race distance; how do I change my race distance if I’m already registered?

There is no cost for downgrades to a shorter race distance
before the final online registration deadline. Refunds will not be
given for downgrades to a shorter race distance. If you’d like to
upgrade your race distance, you will only pay the difference between
the original race fee paid and the current race fee.
*All race downgrades or upgrades at the Håfa Adai Expo will be charged an admin fee.

I’ve just found out I won’t be able to run. Can I get my money back?
If you won’t be able to run, your entry fee will not be refunded. As stated on the application and instructions, race fees are not refundable, nor are they transferable from person to person nor year to year. Once you are signed up, race fees are used for race expenses and cannot be returned.
I can’t run, so I’d like to give my number to a friend. Is that OK?
Race numbers are non-transferable as doing so will create confusion with results.
United Airlines Guam Marathon takes NO responsibility for a third party should a
number be sold or transferred.
I’d like to run as part of a team. Are there provisions for team or group entries?
All entries are on an individual basis. If you’d like to run as part of a group, you
may do so on an informal basis. Also, please run no more than two abreast
to avoid blocking other runners.
RUNNING THE RACE
What is the minimum age to run the United Airlines Guam Marathon?
You must be at least 14 years old on the day of the race to run the full
marathon and half marathon. No age limit for 10K/5K.
Can I bring my dog?
We’re sorry, but pets are not permitted on the course.
Can I push a stroller?
Yes, you can. However your child/stroller will NOT be registered, nor receive a finish time. Please also start towards the back of the starting line to ensure you do not block other runners. United Airlines Guam Marathon takes NO responsibility for injuries caused by use of a stroller. However, should an injury occur, medics will be available to assist.
I’m a very slow runner. Can I still run the race?
Runners of all abilities are welcome. If you’re relatively slow, you should line up towards the back of the start line and you should stay towards the right-hand side of the course. Be sure not to stop suddenly or veer into the paths of other runners. If you’re running with friends, run no more than two abreast. Doing this will keep traffic on the course moving smoothly. The marathon course will stay open for 7 hours.
Can I run the race without a race number or timing chip?
No. You will NOT be able to run the race without a race number. If you do not wear your timing chip, you will not receive a finish time.
How are numbers assigned?
To ensure fairness, number assignment is made on a completely random basis once the runner registers for one of the four races.
I’ve lost my number. Can I get a replacement?
Unfortunately, only ONE number is issued per runner. Lost numbers cannot be replaced under ANY circumstance.
What happens if I wear my wife’s race number/timing chip?
Each race number (and corresponding timing chip) is assigned to YOU specifically. If you wear your wife’s, child’s or friend’s race number, your finishing time will be recorded under HIS/HER name. Please do NOT mix up your race number and timing chip with someone else’s.
Do I need to return my timing chip?
What do I need to bring to packet pick up?
Please bring a valid photo ID and a copy of your registration confirmation. Race bibs, timing chips, and T-shirts will be distributed at the race packet pick up prior to the race. You MUST pick up your packet during this time (Friday, September 11 between 11:00 am and 6:00 pm or Saturday, September 12 between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm. There is NO race day packet pickup.
I can’t attend the race packet pick up. Can my friend bring
my registration receipt and pick up my race packet up for me? Can it
You may have a proxy pick up your packet, along with a written authorization and a copy of your registration receipt.
Can I tour the course prior to race day?
Yes. Course tours by bus will take place on the afternoon of Saturday, September 12. You can purchase tickets at packet pickup.
How many aid stations are there?
There is a total of 15 aid stations on the marathon course (you will pass 13 of these twice, 1 of these three times, and 1 of these only once). Each station will have both water and Gatorade available. Some aid stations will also have some light food available. Please refer to the course map for food offerings on course.
Are there going to be port-a-potties on the course?
Yes! Please refer to the course map for port-a-potty locations.

How often should I drink during the marathon?
Running a marathon in the heat and humidity on Guam requires that you stay hydrated. During the marathon, drink when you’re thirsty, understanding that water, sugars, and electrolytes will help you feel and perform your best. But don’t force yourself to drink. Be particularly careful if you expect to run over four hours. Drink less if you begin to get a queasy, sloshy feeling in your stomach. Using a wet sponge to cool off is recommended at each of the aid stations where sponges are available. Each aid station will be manned with personnel that can assist you with heat and hydration issues, if necessary.
How long is the full marathon course open?
The marathon course will be open until 10:00 a.m. Participants still on the course at this time will be required to move to the sidewalks and obey all traffic signals. The finish line will close 7 hours after the start of the race. Please note that participants who cross the marathon finish line after 10:00 a.m. will not be recognized as official finishers and are not guaranteed a medal or a finishing time. The course cut-off time will be 7 hours from the start of the Marathon. Runners must reach the turnaround for the marathon at the T. Stell Newman Visitor Center in Sumay within 4 hours from the gun start.
Is the marathon a Boston Qualifier?
The course has been certified by AIMS/IAAF and is a Boston Marathon qualifier. AIMS (Association of International Marathons and Distance Races) is affiliated with the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF), the world governing body for the sport of track and field.
I live along the race course. How can I help support the race?
We would love to see the entire race course as a “Cheering Zone” for runners! Please come out and encourage all runners by coming out and cheering for them as they pass by your home or village.
Will there be somewhere secure to leave a bag with my belongings in it while I run the race?
Yes. Before the race, personal belongings may be checked into the Bag Drop Tent located on the north side of Ypao Park. While we take the utmost care with all items left at the bag drop tent, we cannot be held liable for lost or damage items.
What bag should I use?
You will be given a United Airlines Guam Marathon bag at packet pick up that is to be utilized as your gear drop bag (no other bags will be accepted). Affix the baggage label provided to you in your race packet to secure the bag prior to checking it into the bag drop tents. Only secured bags can be deposited to bag drop.
How do I collect my bag?
Deposited bags can be claimed according to bib number at the race bag pickup tent located on the North side of Ypao park. Once claimed, bags cannot be re-deposited. Baggage not claimed by noon on race day will be given to charity.
Where can I park on race day?
Prior to 2 am, you can park at the Pacific Islands Club Garage. You will also be able to park at the south side of Ypao Park.
How are results determined (i.e gun or chip time)?
Per AIMS/IAAF regulations, gun time is used to determine overall winners. Chip time is used to determine all age-group division winners and other award recipients.
How can I get my results?
Each runner will be able to check result details at the Post-Race Beach Party in Ypao Park. Please visit the canopy marked RESULTS. Finisher certificate available after crossing the finish line. Available anytime from the time you finish to 11:00 a.m.
Can I get my results online?
Yes. You will be able to see your final results online at unitedguammarathon.com/results.
Will there be photos of me crossing the finish line?
Yes! The photos are available for FREE via download at our Facebook page at facebook.com/unitedguammarathon.
POST RACE FESTIVAL
After I finish running, what will I be able to get?
After you cross the finish line, there will be a Gatorade Station available for your immediate re-hydration. You will receive your finisher certificate, finisher medal, finisher towel and event beach mat. You can enjoy free food and drinks at the Post-Race Beach Party!
How can I go to the Post-Race Beach Party?
The Post-Race Beach Party begins at 6:30 a.m. Sunday at Gov. Joseph Flores Memorial Park (Ypao Beach), Tumon.
Can friends and family join the Post-Race Beach Party?
Yes. We encourage you to invite your family and friends to come and watch you finish your race and join you for the Post-Race Beach Party activities on Sunday.
What is the Cool Zone?
The Cool Zone will be an area that has water “misters” to help cool off runners after their race.
Will there be massages available after the race?
Yes! And it is FREE for all runners.
